BIOGRAPHY
Alessandro Stigliano (1991) is a Swedish-Italian director born and raised in Tuscany. He is currently based in Malmö (Sweden) where he is developing his debut feature film You, long awaited, a dark satire about child longing . The project has received Moving Sweden funding, a collaboration between the Swedish Film Institute and national public broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT). He just finished the short film God Mor which has not had it’s international premiere yet (shortlisted for the official competition in Cannes) and is co-produced with SVT. The film was pitched in Grimstad at the Screen Talent Europe Pitching Forum 2023, where Alessandro was selected as one of 10 emerging north-European filmmakers. The film also received the Pixel Talent Award 2023, one of Sweden’s largest short film prizes. His zero-budget short comedy Kakor, shot in his apartment with his own baby, was screened at festivals like Clermont Ferrand 2024 and Melbourne Film Festival 2024 (amongst others). The film was also shortlisted for Guldbagge (Swedish Oscars) in 2025 and is now out on SVT and BeTV. Alessandro started out by making YouTube horror shorts back in Italy before moving to Sweden in 2013 where he worked on a couple of feature films as a camera assistant and slowly transitioned into directing commercials and short films. For him, filmmaking is all about creating intense cinematic experiences that distracts the audience from their own life just to make them think about it even more, by the time they get home from the cinema. That’s why he aims for intense sensory overloads and tries as much as he can to avoid spoon-feeding the audience, leaving them uncomfortable, unsure and - above all - entertained.
